Veggie Tales

Today I found some marked down celery and a few bags of marked down carrots.  I know my chickens love all of those things but I thought I would buy them and dehydrate them for soups/stews etc. I used my mother’s old slicer  and made carrot chips and lined two trays of my little dehydrator.

I also sliced up several stalks of celery too.  I have never dehydrated them before so I did learn a few lessons for next time.  Line my trays!  Those little things slide between the holes on the tray!

It only took a few hours and they were ready!  This is a cheap way to keep very ripe veggies before you lose them.  They store easily in mason jars and can be thrown in pots of soup etc.  I am onions and potatoes tomorrow.  I’m sure after a few hours of doing onions my whole house will smell like onions!  I might wait until this blizzard blows over and I can open windows and doors or set my dehydrator outside!

This is the result of 5 carrots and 6 stalks of celery!  Pretty space saving for sure! I will add this to my “soup jars” and will blog about that when I do them too!  These little things really do save alot of money on your grocery bill.  They keep for months in the jars and can be used anytime!  Keep your eyes open for sales and buy cheap and keep!
